I believe this book to be a modern classic, written by Bishop Steven Croft, 2006. The blurb on the back says: 'Packed with codes and secrets and inviting us to explore the deeper meaning of Christmas, this enthralling and touching tale can be read on many levels, and is suitable for adults and children alike.'

Inside was something even better. Inside all was darkness, except for a tiny, living candle flame.
at the beginning of advent we light the first candle in church reminding us of abraham. By faith he was justified. As my mind is contemplating faith and justification at the moment I recognise this action in Sam as he acts to defend Alice and protect her. There is an element of 'look here' we are right and ok just send us back to where we are not out of our comfort zones 'normality'.
But as Alice looks in the window the living flame is alight - and it is better than chocolates! They are on a roll and once the flame is alight who can put it out?
